Professor Sidney Ricketts, LVO, BSc, BVSc, DSc (hc Bristol), DESM, DipECEIM, FRCPath, FRCVS, is a distinguished UK veterinarian specializing in equine stud medicine and equine clinical pathology. He has had a long and illustrious career, serving as a Senior Partner and Managing Partner at Rossdales, Newmarket, where he attended Thoroughbred studfarms and developed an internationally acclaimed equine clinical pathology laboratory. Sidney has been awarded numerous accolades, including a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his thesis on endometrial biopsy pathology in mares and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists for his published works in equine pathology. He has had more than 100 papers published in scientific journals, co-authored two editions of the book Equine Studfarm Medicine with his colleague in practice the late Dr Peter Rossdale and has lectured to equine veterinary audiences world-wide.
Over the years, Sidney has been an advisor to many veterinary and Thoroughbred industry professional bodies, including more than 40 years with the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association’s Veterinary Committee. In retirement he remains a Veterinary Advisor to the Alborada Trust. In 1998, he was honoured Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, when he was Senior Veterinary Advisor to the Royal Studs, Sandringham, Norfolk. In 2001 he was appointed Visiting Professor in the Dept of Clinical Veterinary Science, University of Bristol and in 2007 Visiting Professor of Equine Pathology at the Royal Veterinary College, London. He provided lectures on equine reproduction topics at both veterinary schools.
