Mick Fitzgerald enjoyed a stellar career as a National Hunt jockey, highlighted by his victories in the 1996 Grand National on Rough Quest and the 1999 Cheltenham Gold Cup on See More Business. He was the leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival in both 1999 and 2000, amassing a total of 14 wins at the festival throughout his career. Mick’s first win came on Lover’s Secret at Ludlow in 1988, and he retired from racing in 2008 after a successful and memorable career.
After retiring from professional racing in 2008, Mick transitioned into a successful broadcasting career. He began with “At The Races”, providing expert analysis and commentary. In 2013, he joined Channel 4 Racing, where his insights and engaging style quickly made him a viewer favourite. When ITV took over the broadcasting rights, Mick continued his role with ITV Racing, becoming a key figure in their coverage. His expertise and passion for the sport have made him a respected and influential voice in horse racing media.
Mick is a dedicated Charity Champion for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, where he frequently visits patients and participates in ward activities. His efforts, alongside Sir AP McCoy, have significantly contributed to raising funds and supporting the hospital’s initiatives.
