Dr Jane Hastie née Nixon

Jane is a highly respected equine veterinarian with over 45 years of experience in the field. A Cambridge graduate 1978, she has dedicated her career to the performance horse and young horse development, becoming a leading figure in equine veterinary practice in the UK.
Throughout her career, Jane has held several prestigious consultancy appointments and chairmanships, including:
6 years as Chair of the British Horse Foundation (BHF): A charity focused on advancing equine breeding and welfare through research and education. Jane is now stepping down in favour of 2 Co-Chairs, Dr Jan Birch and Yogi Breisner, but is delighted to become President continuing to support the British Horse Foundation’s aims.
Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Farriers for over 30 years and in 2021 appointed Yeoman, Ambassador and Honorary Freeman of the worshipful Company of Saddlers. In 2023 Jane delivered their company lecture on ‘Social License in equestrian Sport’.
Board member at the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) for 8 years: The national governing body for Olympic equestrian sports in the UK and an umbrella organisation representing the interests of 3 million equestrians in Great Britain via 20 independent member bodies.
Chair of the Showing Council: An amalgamation of 20 showing bodies under the guidance of the BEF.
British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) council member.
Chair of the British Breeders Network.
Jane has also been a lead veterinarian and evaluating vet for British Breeding, examining youngstock from foal to three years old for their suitability as future competition horses. Her contributions to the equine industry were recognised in 2022 with the British Equestrian Medal of Honour for her outstanding services to the British Equestrian Federation and its member bodies.
Her commitment to equine health and welfare, combined with her vast experience and expertise, has made Jane a prominent and influential figure in the equine veterinary community.
