Dr Jan Birch

Dr. Jan Birch completed her PhD in Veterinary Physiology at the University of Cambridge, as an Animal Health Trust scholar. Her specialist research interests are in reproduction, lactation, metabolic stress and growth.

Across her academic career she has lectured, managed and developed industry-aligned degree programmes in animal and equine sciences.  She has extensive industry-linked, applied research experience which includes partnership building, project development and grant writing for numerous collaborations between industry, the charitable sector and academia. She is currently based at The University of Liverpool, School of Veterinary Sciences as an Hon. Senior Research Fellow.

Jan also has extensive experience in the charities sector having held senior management, trustee and independent consultant posts with responsibilities for research, project development and funding strategies.  In addition, she has a special interest in dissemination and knowledge transfer, understanding the vital role of ‘making applied research accessible to wider audiences’, including webinar production and conference organisation.
